Brand handbook.
Oslo, December 2025
The purpose of this handbook is to serve as a compass for all teams, providing clarity, simplifying choices, and ensuring that our identity remains authentic, consistent, and recognizable across all formats.
We've intentionally crafted and are carefully evolving our brand; it has its own distinct personality and is not a reflection of anyone's personal taste. Stay on the path and help Neat uphold a strong brand that fosters customer loyalty, builds trust, and forges a positive emotional connection with people.
Who we are.
Our brand platform defines why we do this, what is our purpose and how we do it. It explains the meaning of “neat”, who we are and what we value, and how our brand is relevant, attractive, and genuine. It guides our reflexes and decisions every day.
Why
An overabundance of technology is rapidly making communication between people ever more complex. There's too much in the way. People should be able to meet each other and collaborate, in person or remotely, in a simple, natural, and meaningful way.
We believe we can cut through the noise to create a new kind of presence. A Nordic calm that tunes in to people's time, space and needs, which will make us the natural choice for meetings at work.
What
However people prefer to work today or tomorrow, we are here to help them feel connected, present, and understood. We do so by creating sophisticated and versatile tools that aim to minimize the physical and virtual divide inherent in video communications. Tools that are uniquely simple, intelligent, and open.
How
We stay out of the way, so people can focus on what matters. Neat devices don't obstruct or force people to change their behaviour; instead, they intelligently, empathetically, and flexibly fit in and remove barriers to authentic human connection.
Neat devices are simple to buy, set up, use, and manage. We deliver uncomplicated and natural audio and video experiences through intentionally focused yet versatile hardware and software options.
Position
How people perceive us
Simple. Intelligent. Open.
Neat is leading the way in business video communications with surprisingly simple solutions relevant to people's working lives. We offer people choice and freedom by building an intelligent, open ecosystem where simplicity, AI, and human connection meet. Neat is a high-value offering, ever evolving our craft to solve real problems for our users, customers, and partners through continuous innovation.
Personality
Who we are
We are bold, focused, human and inspiring.
Our name is our ethos. Everything should be and feel "Neat." Dictionary definitions of neat include the following: arranged in a tidy way; in good order; having a pleasing appearance; well-formed; done with or demonstrating skill or efficiency; not diluted. The word "neat" isn't just about what it means but what it promises to deliver.
It takes guts to be "neat." Hence, we are brave explorers, curious and excited to seek answers beyond the status quo. We embrace experimentation and original thinking to identify what's essential, seeking to eliminate the non-essential. We focus on understanding, not just responding. We uncover what's needed and solve it in a better, more thoughtful way. Unafraid of trying. Unafraid to fail. We are about creating solutions that we believe in and that dare to become the new industry standard.
Story
Where we come from
We founded Neat on a Norwegian heritage of human-centered innovation.
Neat was established in Oslo, Norway, in 2019 by a team of creative mavericks who, for decades, shaped game-changing innovations within the video communications industry. From the pioneering spirit of polar explorers to the strong cultural connection to nature, balance, and the belief that everyone has an equal right to be seen and heard, Neat reflects the Norwegian tradition of striking a balance between technological innovation and respect for people and the environment.
Guidance
Our Northern stars
We're guided by a collection of key words that shape our brand.
We navigate with the following:
People first. User friendly. Good design. High quality. Continual innovation. Pioneering. Simple. Intelligent. Open. Accessible. Reliable. Consistent user experience. Safe and secure operating system. Good customer service and support. Competitive price point. Aspirational yet affordable. Added value. Easy to buy. Easy to own. Easy to manage. Built to last. Designed to adapt.
Avoidance
Neat isn't like anyone else in our industry, and we intend to keep it that way.
We're here to rethink video communications, not to follow outdated industry norms. As a result, we avoid the following:
• We don't compete on the lowest upfront prices.
• We don't compete on feature lists, but on the holistic value.
• We don't speak in jargon or technical buzzwords.
• We don't mimic legacy players or outdated messaging.
• We don't define ourselves by what competitors do.
• We don't add to the noise, we rise above it.
• We don't just respond to customer requests; we uncover and solve the real problem.
What we stand for.
Our positioning and messaging framework defines what our brand says and how it adapts that conversation to different audiences. It guides our marketing and communication, ensuring consistency and relevance.

Keep our brand Neat
Whatever you create, however you create it,
it must meet our Neat brand standards.
How we look.
Our aesthetics reflect the meaning of “neat” and the simple, intuitive and practical experience that our products and services offer.
It also bears reference to our Scandinavian heritage and DNA, with its Scandinavian design and nature influences.
1.0
Logo
Our logotype, featuring geometric letterforms, conveys a strong brand and is designed to represent the simplicity and ease of use of our products. It also establishes a clear and contemporary presence, complementing our innovative product range. It should be the first choice when selecting a graphic element that personifies Neat.
The logo should always be applied consistently. It should never be altered, modified, or redrawn. Consistent logo use creates brand strength and immediate recognition of who we are and what we stand for as a company.
Wordmark
We've based our logo on simple geometric shapes. It's carefully constructed and optically adjusted to maintain unique characteristics while allowing for legibility at different sizes on any application.
The "." (period) is part of the Neat logo, and you should use it whenever you or others present the Neat logo.
You should display the Neat logo in our signature colors: purple, gray, or white. You should not alter, rotate, or modify the Neat logo. You should not animate, accessorize, or embellish the Neat logo.
Clear space
When using the Neat logo with other graphic elements or copy, give it room to breathe. The space around the logo should be equal to or greater than the width of the "n" in the logo's typeface, as shown in the diagram.
Sizing
Please comply with the minimum print and digital sizes to maintain the Neat logo's visual impact.
Misuse
Logo rules aren’t just formalities—they protect the brand’s clarity and impact. Editing the logo weakens recognition and makes the brand look inconsistent. Clear guidelines ensure the logo always appears strong, professional, and instantly recognizable.
Don't use different colors.
Don't use screenshots of the logo.
Don't use drop shadows.
Don't distort the logo.
Don't outline the logo.
Don't use a poor-quality logo.
Don't place the logo on busy images.
Don't rotate the logo.
Don't create different variants.
AI guidance
Never ask AI to recreate, redraw, interpret, or approximate the Neat logo. Always use an approved logo asset and follow our brand guidelines for its proportions, colors, placement, and clear space. If you can’t use the official logo correctly, leave it out.
Product logos
Product logos are a crucial component of our branding. We've based them on the Neat primary logo combined with the device name in the Stolzl font, and this concept is reserved exclusively for Neat products.
We use the logos on product packaging, our website, and marketing materials. They must not be used in any other contexts or for self-made copies in different initiatives, as this would weaken product recognisability and the brand.
Lockups
The image below is a visual option for combining the Neat logo with a theme or slogan. The product name convention with a period ('.') is reserved exclusively for Neat products. This approach helps maintain brand consistency without creating additional logo variations.
Co-branding
As a partner, you're welcome to use the lockup with Neat on your marketing materials or in other designs, but only if it includes your logo.

Typography
We use Maison Neue as our primary font. It's a modern, mono-lined, Milieu Grotesque font constructed using rigid elements to achieve a minimalist, industrial feel. It prioritizes clarity and accessibility, making it easy to read on digital screens and perfect for print use.
Maison Neue is a licensed font and should be used exclusively for products, packaging, Neat software, web interfaces, and crafted content for marketing purposes.
Maison Neue Bold (headlines)

Alternative typeface
To ensure consistency in our communications with third parties who don't support the Maison Neue typeface, we use Inter as a dependable alternative. This alternative helps us maintain visual coherence across all materials while upholding our standards of quality and clarity.
We use Inter for Google Slides presentations (embedded in our Google Slides presentation template), Canva projects, and other materials where Maison Neue is not available. If Inter isn't available, our third option is Arial, which we also use for Microsoft PowerPoint presentations.
Font color
Our primary font choice is #333333, with a lighter 60% version used for secondary text to create a clear and balanced hierarchy. On dark backgrounds, use #FFFFFF, paired with a softer 60% version for supporting text. Avoid using colored text in headers or body copy to maintain a clean and consistent design. It’s also essential to keep enough contrast to ensure readability and meet accessibility standards.
Font size
To ensure legibility and accessibility across all platforms, we maintain minimum font size standards for both digital and print applications. These sizes are based on industry best practices and accessibility recommendations.
Digital
Body text: min 16pt
Caption, disclaimer: min 14pt
Body text: min 9pt
Caption, disclaimer: min 7pt
Although there's no strict rule for font size, we recommend using the standard 16px as the default minimum for body text on digital platforms. It's the default font size in most browsers and generally provides comfortable readability without the need for zooming in.
You can use font sizes smaller for secondary information, but only if they maintain a strong contrast and remain readable when resized. Don't scale font below the minimum sizes. Doing so compromises readability, user experience, and accessibility.
3.0
Icons
Our icons are small in scale yet integral to our visual identity. We consistently use the same iconography across all platforms, from our devices and software UIs to our Neat Pulse and website messaging. Maintaining a cohesive style establishes a sense of familiarity, recognisability, intuitive understanding and trust, regardless of which product or platform people interact with.
You can also use our icons for presentations, brochures, or packaging design. However, remember to scale any icons proportionally and never stretch them. You can download all our icons from the link below. If you require any new icons, please get in touch with the design team.
4.0
Colors
Purple is a vital component of our brand identity. It plays a key role in establishing a distinctive and memorable visual presence. However, due to its bold and vibrant nature, it should be used thoughtfully and in moderation.
You shouldn't use it for extensive backgrounds or typography. Incorporate it in small amounts to highlight key elements, ensuring it enhances the design without overpowering the overall look.
Neutral tones
Neutral tones, including both dark and light shades of grey, form the foundation of our palette from our physical devices to the UI design system.
These shades complement other colors and provide a flexible, unobtrusive and understated baseline. When used alongside white, these neutral tones create a clean and modern aesthetic, providing a balanced backdrop that allows other design elements, such as typography or images, to stand out.
UI shades
While brand colors establish identity and evoke emotions, we specifically design our UI colors to enhance usability and communication within our digital interfaces. They help guide users, indicate actions, and convey status or feedback with clarity and precision.
For example, we use blue for call-to-actions, turquoise for updates, orange for warnings, and red for errors or critical states. UI colors are reserved exclusively for our website and software, except interactive documents, forms, and emails with blue CTA buttons. Please don’t use our UI colors in any other context. That way, we maintain their effectiveness and avoid confusion.
Earth tones
A palette of earth-inspired colors complements our visual brand identity and enhances our marketing materials, such as presentations (backgrounds and graphs), as well as room renders that appear on our website and beyond.
These tones draw inspiration from Norwegian nature and landscapes, embodying its sense of tranquility that enriches our visual narrative. By incorporating these colors, we aim to create a harmonious, calm aesthetic that reinforces our renders and aligns with our brand's visual narrative. We've included lighter and darker earth tone shades in the colors PDF downloadable at the top of this section.
5.0
Design principles
Whether we create digital products, physical objects, films, or animations, our work follows the same foundation: simplicity, precision, and functionality. These principles ensure that our design is not only visually compelling, but also meaningful and enduring.
The design principles apply universally, from a simple interface button to a complex animation or cinematic sequence. They help us build designs that are not only visually compelling, but also meaningful, timeless, functional, and alive.
To design is to solve problems with clarity and intention.
6.0
Product DNA
Neat devices feature a calm, precise, and coherent design language that enables them to fit into a wide range of interiors, while ensuring they're all uniquely recognizable as Neat. The focus is on simple, clear, and intuitive form factors that provide users with a straightforward understanding of how to use them.
Large surfaces where anything unnecessary is stripped away, combined with small, refined details around precision elements like the cameras, make Neat devices elegantly simple.
Form follows function
The principal shapes are primitives, but the corners are always rounded and the transitions soft, which makes the shapes more friendly and comfortable to touch and handle. Neutral grey is the primary color, using satin surfaces and fabric panels in slightly different tones to create variety through texture rather than color.
We've intentionally kept the palette simple, to avoid drawing attention and let people focus on what they are using these tools for. One of the most recognizable design features is the use of slots and subtle cutouts, which are both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
Conscious materials
We use fabric to subtly blend technology products with furniture, ensuring a harmonious overall material use with a focus on sustainability.
We also strive to keep our packaging components confined to a single material whenever possible for easy recycling. The use of natural brown cardboard with a minimum of white ink means we use less energy and resources during the manufacturing process.
7.0
Images and videos
Neat images and videos come in a wide variety of styles and artistic directions, serving different purposes. All visual assets, from simple illustrations to rich and detailed videography, share common traits that make them good representations of our brand.
Studio images
Studio images should always be simple, elegant, and honest. Products are presented against clean backgrounds with soft, even lighting to highlight design details without distractions. When you include people, expressions should be natural and relaxed, creating a sense of warmth and approachability.
The overall feeling is clear and sophisticated, allowing Neat’s design and character to stand out.
Keep Neat devices true to life
Make sure every Neat device in an image accurately represents the real product. AI can easily invent cameras, buttons, ports, screens, proportions, or even entirely new devices. Use approved product imagery wherever possible. If you can’t represent a Neat device accurately, leave it out.
Interiors
Interior photography should capture real, lived-in environments where Neat products naturally belong. Spaces feel warm and functional, with a balance of natural light and a welcoming atmosphere. The styling is minimal but thoughtful, reflecting a sense of harmony and subtle sophistication.
8.0
Wallpapers
Our wallpapers reflect Neat’s commitment to simplicity and harmony. Each design draws from the quiet character of our devices, the way light moves across their surfaces and the soft, natural impressions that emerge from those reflections. By blending these subtle cues with organic forms, we created wallpapers that feel both calm and alive, becoming a gentle extension of the technology they accompany.
Built as lightweight vectors, they scale seamlessly without losing quality, making them adaptable to any screen size. Their clean, minimalist aesthetic complements the Neat interface while fostering strong, unique brand consistency.
9.0
Layout examples
The examples below perfectly illustrate our striking yet straightforward Neat aesthetic, reflecting just the right amount of detail and sense of space.
These layouts demonstrate how balance, clarity, and minimalist design elements work together to create a clean, confident, and inviting look. They highlight Neat’s commitment to simplicity and thoughtful design.
The examples demonstrate how we incorporate the Neat aesthetic into our materials, striking a balance between clarity and a spacious, calm feel. By using clean structures and thoughtful placement of text and images, we make content easy to navigate and pleasant to read. Our approach ensures that every document feels consistent, visually engaging, and true to our brand values.
Stay on brand
Use AI to help create assets,
but never use it as a substitute
for brand judgment.
Stick to Neat’s approved colors, typography, photography, graphics, product names, messaging, and visual assets. Don’t let AI invent its own interpretation of our brand identity.
Give Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other partner brands the same care and attention. Check names, logos, products, certifications, and claims for accuracy. Never let AI approximate a partner logo or invent an endorsement, certification, or product capability.
AI guidance
Before you publish anything, look at the work as a whole.
Is everything accurate? Does it look professional? Does it feel like Neat?
If you’re unsure, ask Marketing or Creative to review it.
How we speak.
Neat is driven to make everything we do as straightforward, practical, and rewarding as possible for people. Therefore, our writing should always strive to be simple, clear, and concise, so it’s easy to read, scan, and comprehend. We put ourselves in our readers’ shoes to make it helpful, inspiring, and engaging.
To anyone who publishes marketing, sales, or other external-facing material for Neat, for example, to customers, prospective customers and partners, "The Neat Way to Write" will help you gain a greater grip on Neat's style of writing.
The most essential questions to ask yourself are the following:
What is the aim of the copy? Who are we targeting? Where are they in the customer journey? Why should they read it? What can we say that our competitors can't? What is our call to action (CTA)?
1.0
US grammar and spelling
We write in English using US grammar and spelling. For example, "Organization," not "organisation," and "Color," not "Colour." (Grammarly is free, and you can set it to US grammar.)
Why? It's more widely recognized internationally.
We don't use complicated words
We don't use unnecessarily long or complicated words just for the sake of it or to sound clever. For example, we say "many ways," not "myriad ways." We choose our words wisely and avoid clichés and redundancies. Redundancies are words or sentences that unnecessarily repeat information.
Remember that not all our English-language copy readers will be native English speakers; so again, clarity is essential. We avoid using colloquialisms (informal, everyday language specific to a particular geographical region) or slang, unless they are universally recognized phrases.
It's OK to split infinitives
We split infinitives when we write because that's how we speak on a day-to-day basis. For example, it's OK to say, "Creating growing ways to more closely connect, create, and communicate," as opposed to "Creating growing ways to connect, create, and communicate more closely."
2.0
Simple everyday language
We use simple, everyday language, avoiding industry jargon, acronyms, and abbreviations, such as "year over year," not "YOY." To understand more about acronyms, see the "Clear" section in "The Neat Way to Write" PDF.
Our style is conversational. We don't assume people are familiar with the industry terms we use to communicate with each other. For example, we may use industry terms such as "SKUs (Stocking-keeping units)," but that doesn't mean our audience is familiar with them. Again, use everyday language, and spell out any acronyms first.
Why? It's to personify our philosophy of being crystal clear.
We write in the active voice
In general, we write in the active voice. For example, "We use Neat devices," not "Neat devices are being used." The former is active, the latter passive (Grammarly helps you write in the active voice).
Why? It's quicker and more accurate for readers to understand.
Adjusting the tone
We adjust our tone depending on the message we want to convey, the type of written material we're producing, and the audience it's intended for. For example, software release details in an email differ slightly in tone from a display ad or topical newsletter.
You're an authority on video communications
When you write as Neat, you're an authority on video communications and everything it entails. Being an authority figure doesn't mean we're always dry, formal, or robotic-sounding.
Alliteration is good
Alliteration is good. It's catchy and more likely to stick in the mind, especially in short-form copy. For example, "Compelling communication creates fans."
Alliteration is the repetition of the same sound at the start of a series of words in succession, whose purpose is to provide an audible pulse that gives a piece of writing a lulling, lyrical, and/or emotive effect.
AI-generated copy
Check every word. AI can easily generate misspelled, distorted, or nonsensical text. Zoom in and check every headline, label, sign, screen, logo, date, address, and piece of background text before publishing. Treat AI-generated copy as a draft, never the finished product. Check the tone, terminology, grammar, spelling, product claims, and factual accuracy. AI often adds unnecessary words and ideas, so pare the copy back to what you really need to say. Avoid generic AI language, clichés, excessive hype, and anything that doesn’t sound like us.
3.0
Headlines, titles, and section headers
We use the Chicago Manual of Style for capitalizing headlines, front cover titles, and section headers in "Title Case." Here's a helpful tool that makes title capitalization easy: Capitalize My Title.
Why? It's become a staple reference for writers and editors.
4.0
Page titles, headings, and taglines
We use "Sentence case" for page titles and headings, subheadings, and taglines, such as "Smarter, simpler video devices."
Why? It's elegant-looking and complies with the Chicago Manual of Style.
5.0
Bullet points
Use a period at the end of a bullet point if it's a complete sentence. If it's not a complete sentence, then don't use a period.
For example, here's a complete sentence with a period at the end:
• We'll cover key topics in the tech industry at our annual conference.
Here's an incomplete sentence without a period:
• Key topics in the tech industry
Tip: Try to be consistent in your use of complete sentences or incomplete sentences when using bullet points.
6.0
No ampersands
We write "and" not "&" unless it's part of a job title or company name, such as "Ben & Jerry's" or "Marketing & Communications Director."
Why? We avoid shortcuts, symbols, and abbreviations that we can easily spell out.
7.0
Neat naming
We never abbreviate the names of our devices, features, and subscriptions, nor do we put "the" in front of them, such as "Board" or "The Neat Board."
Why? People and search engines recognize our devices, features, and subscriptions by their full registered names and spellings. Consider how you pronounce "iPhone." You don't say "the iPhone."
8.0
Neat capitalization
We use "Title Case" when we write our registered device, feature, and subscription names, such as "Neat Board," "Neat Boundary," or "Neat Pulse."
Why? People and search engines recognize our devices, features, and subscriptions by their full registered names and spellings.
Here's how we write and spell our devices, features, and subscriptions. Also, our company tagline:
9.0
Copy length
Long form copy (over 1000 words)
In long-form writing, such as blogs, customer case studies, eGuides, white papers, and product presentations, we use short paragraphs and strategically placed subheadings to enable readers to scan the page and read the content easily. We're not afraid of space!
We use bullet points to break down large amounts of information into a concise, easier-to-read list. In blogs and customer case studies, we add captions beneath our images to provide context and help the viewer understand the image's meaning. Captions also enhance, cite, and optimize our materials for search engines.
Short form copy (under 1000 words)
When it comes to marketing materials such as our website copy, display and OOH ads, email promotions, social posts, etc., we keep our copy short and sharp for maximum impact. When the character count is strict, we choose our words wisely, for example, in Google display ads.
Remember, don't use "&" or other shortcuts. It appears lazy and is off-brand. There's always a way to cut words without losing brand identity.
The bottom line:
We are engaging, trustworthy,
and reassuring
We're confident in what we know without coming across as condescending. We're persuasive but don't want to sound overly pushy. We're solution-oriented and adaptable. We're topical and not out of touch. We strive to be creative in our communication. We strive to be Neat in everything we write and communicate to the world.
Trade shows, demo rooms, our own offices, and official Neat promotional giveaways provide unique opportunities to showcase our brand. Hence, we aim to maintain consistent imagery, messaging, material usage, product placement, and a simple setup throughout all physical representations of Neat.
Any physical Neat space, location, or piece of swag should adhere to our core values of simple aesthetics, real materials, and our natural, toned-down Nordic color base with hints of our signature purple.
1.0
Physical spaces
Overall vibe
Our exhibition booth, demo room, and office designs should display our products in ways that reflect their functionality and feel relevant to our customers. You should consider acoustics and good lighting when designing a Neat space, and incorporate real materials in open, well-lit spaces wherever possible to conform to our Nordic design heritage. We want people to feel comfortable, be inspired, imagine our devices in their own spaces, and learn how to optimize their video meeting experiences.
Hints of purple
Purple is an essential part of our brand identity. It plays a key role in establishing a distinctive and memorable visual presence. However, due to its bold and vibrant nature, you should use it thoughtfully and in moderation to enhance the space's look and feel. Incorporate it in small amounts to highlight key elements, ensuring it enhances the design without overpowering the overall look.
Wall treatments
Use our palette of earth-inspired colors when designing a physical Neat space. These colors draw inspiration from our Nordic design heritage, reflecting the natural landscapes and embodying a sense of balance and tranquility. People should experience them as a natural backdrop. By incorporating these colors, we aim to create a harmonious, calm aesthetic that enriches our renders and aligns with our brand’s visual narrative.
Materials
Every Neat space should feel inviting, inspiring, and professional. Use consistent materials across different trade shows, demo rooms, and office spaces to create a cohesive look and feel. Light, real wooden tables, real wood slats, and genuine greenery offer great ways to enhance warmth and style. If real greenery is unavailable, consider real table plants or, as a last resort, well-made artificial ones. Incorporate felt couches, curtains, or other soft furnishings to improve acoustics and comfort. These elements reduce noise and contribute to a well-designed, welcoming atmosphere.
Furniture
Comfortable seating that promotes good posture, active movement, and well-being is essential when choosing task chairs for office spaces. Look for brands that encourage you to keep moving while seated. Other healthy pieces of office furniture to consider are height-adjustable desks that enable you to sit or stand. Use non-height-adjustable chairs in large meeting rooms to reduce clutter. Chairs positioned at varying heights can make the space look messy.
Sustainability
When sourcing materials or refurbishing spaces, prioritize items made from recycled or sustainable materials. Whenever possible, reuse existing furniture or choose materials with a low carbon footprint. Opt for practical and reusable items if you're providing attendees with leave-behinds. Avoid gimmicky products that are likely to be discarded.
Imagery and messaging
All imagery and messaging you add to a Neat space should comply with the How we look and How we speak sections of our brand guidelines. You should predominantly incorporate our "Beautifully simple video devices" company tagline over other supporting taglines or messaging. The imagery and messaging should be a suitable marriage between the visual and the text, presenting our products and the message we want to convey to maximum effect. Speak to Kamila Miekina, Visual Designer, and Simon Anthony Walker, Brand & Content Marketing Manager, for help.

Virtual
spaces
How we present ourselves is just as important as how we physically or digitally show up. Hosting or joining a meeting where you're talking or presenting to others while surrounded by clutter or poorly lit conditions can be distracting and doesn't represent our brand in the best way. How we present ourselves and our surroundings should reflect our core principle of Neat, helping create simple, clear, and clutter-free meeting environments.

Promotional giveaways
Brand consistency
Logo placement
Ensure the official Neat logo is placed prominently and tastefully on all items. Do not distort the logo.
Color scheme
Stick to Neat’s brand color palette. Use colors that align with the brand’s identity.
Typography
Our official fonts must be used for any text on the swag, maintaining legibility and brand consistency. Do not put slogans on swag.
Clothing
Our branded clothing should complement employees' everyday style. Primary colors for clothing: Black, white, gray, and beige.
Secondary colors for clothing: Purple, forest green, and blue. We reserve these for special items, and marketing must approve them. Reach out to neat.swag@neat.no.
You can find specific instructions for T-shirts, polo shirts, jackets, sweaters, vests, and pullovers in the Neat Swag Guidelines.
Other items
Offer swag that will attract attention while making a positive impression, and stick to items that are easy to carry and useful for the target audience.
Examples: Water bottles, tumblers, pens, stickers, notebooks.
Again, please refer to the Neat Swag Guidelines for more in-depth info.
Know your audience
Audience consideration
Ensure the swag is appropriate for your target audience (e.g., employees, clients, event attendees).
Cultural sensitivity
Be mindful of different cultures, values, and sensitivities. Avoid items that could be considered offensive or inappropriate in any way. For example, in China, people are wary of gifts and their symbolism, so it's essential to follow the appropriate etiquette. Umbrellas, candles, and black-and-white items are considered taboo and may offend the recipient.
Functionality
Choose practical, useful items. Swag that adds value (e.g., water bottles, notebooks, reusable bags) will be more appreciated than novelty items that might end up as clutter.
Sustainability
Prioritize eco-conscious items, such as reusable products, those made from organic materials, locally sourced materials, recycled materials, and products that reduce waste (e.g., reusable straws, tote bags, or sustainable office supplies), ideally from brands with B-Corp status. Remember, less is more!
Minimize excess packaging and opt for sustainable, recyclable, or biodegradable packaging options.
Quality standards
Choose quality products. Swag that breaks or deteriorates quickly can reflect poorly on the brand.
Ensure you professionally brand elements (e.g., screen printing, transfers, embroidery) and maintain a high standard of quality.
Legal and ethical
considerations
Trademark and copyright compliance
Ensure that all logos used on swag items are trademarked or licensed, and avoid infringing on others' intellectual property.
Compliance with regulations
For giveaways in certain regions, ensure that all swag complies with local laws and regulations.
Non-discrimination
Swag should be neutral and inclusive. Avoid items that may be exclusive or alienating due to factors such as gender, race, or religion.
